Strategic communications

Before you invest in our services, we'll first sit down and discuss how we can help you drive your business objectives and long-term goals.

PR is an investment, not always with immediate results. But if done properly, aligned with your vision, mission and strategic direction, it can give you that priceless competitive edge and help you to stand out.

We may or may not be the marketing solution for you, but take our advice: public relations should be about outcomes, not outputs. We care about your return on investment, and that means adding material value and delivering results.

Strategy for a global campaign

A health and safety PR specialist, Branagh PR was appointed public relations advisor in 2020 to the One Percent Safer charitable foundation, whose aim is to cut the number of work-related fatalities worldwide.

The campaign has become a global phenomenon, garnering the support of some of the world's leading thinkers, innovators and practitioners in health and safety and attracting interest worldwide, from New Zealand to Canada. Since its inception, it has generated widespread media coverage and become one of the major talking points in the field of occupational safety and health.

‘Branagh PR’s strategy and ongoing support has been instrumental in ensuring our campaign to cut the number of people killed at work has reached a wide, global audience’ - Prof Dr Andrew Sharman, Chair, One Percent Safer.

Media exposure for mindset coach

Branagh PR is experienced in mental health public relations and in 2020 worked with mindset coach Dhara Shah, founder of Ripple Touch.

Through a combination of social media messaging, video creation and media engagement, we raised the company's profile and generated more business.

‘Tim took time to understand the objectives and put forward a clear strategy that explained key stages in achieving the objectives. His approach has meant giving Ripple Touch the increased media exposure needed to key target audiences. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Tim and Branagh PR’ - Dhara Shah, Founder, Ripple Touch

Promotions that increase sales

We have experience of leading on the promotion of industry-defining events.

For this  conference, Branagh PR director Tim Walsh led a team responsible for designing, marketing and delivering an event  in Birmingham that attracted a 15% increase in numbers on the previous year.

As well as leading on marketing, he designed and drafted this print advert for the event, featuring the celebrated BBC journalist Frank Gardner.

With experience of holding senior marketing positions, we understand perhaps better than your average PR consultancy how public relations, print advertising and digital marketing, as well as placement, pricing and product, all knit together in the marketing mix.

An influential white paper

Branagh PR director Tim Walsh authored the influential white paper, The Healthy Profit. This report has been used widely to make the case for investing in occupational safety and health.

As part of the report, we commissioned a survey of business leaders to uncover the attitudes to investments in safety and health, and to the role of the safety and health manager in the organisation. We then interviewed leading practitioners working for organisations including Heineken and Skanska to find out how they take a strategic approach to managing the risks to their people.

The content of this report has since been repurposed for speeches and training products, and remains the definitive text for explaining the business case for safety and health at work.

The human capital summit

World-leading organisations joined experts in the fields of human capital, sustainability and occupational safety and health in Paris for a summit to discuss safety and health, sustainability and human capital.

Google, Nike, L’Oréal, BNP Paribas, Hermes and AP Moller-Maersk were among companies represented for the Center for Safety and Health Sustainability’s (CSHS) Human Capital Project – Global Summit: Putting people back into sustainability, at L’Oréal’s Aulnay Campus. Joining them were investors and leading thinkers in human capital, sustainability and occupational safety, health and wellbeing.

And we designed and executed a communications strategy to promote this ground-breaking event, creating a call to action, generating media coverage, producing a report and capturing the whole summit on film.

Media campaign for mental health

Between September 2020 and April 2021, Branagh PR worked with Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project (Lamp) to raise awareness of mental health conditions and generate funds to support vital local services in Leicestershire and Rutland. Our media campaign with Lamp and local clothing manufacturer The Funk Academy garnered media coverage in the local newspaper, on BBC Radio and across BBC and ITV regional television.

We worked with a young man as a case study to highlight the issues. From BBC and ITV news, he then appeared on BBC's The One Show. As PR partner to Lamp, Branagh PR director Tim Walsh then led on the launch of a successful campaign to promote the benefits of physical exercise to mental health.

‘On behalf of Lamp I would like to give thanks to Tim Walsh from Branagh PR. With your assistance, mental health awareness was achieved through various mediums. Followers increased by at least 20% across all of Lamp’s social media accounts. We would have no hesitation in recommending your services ‘ - Minakshee Patel, Trustee, Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project

The mark of excellence

In 2018, Branagh PR director Tim Walsh was Head of Communications at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), leading the team behind the award-winning No Time to Lose campaign.

Tim wrote the winning entry for the global drive to combat occupational cancer, which was given the Mark of Excellence for International Campaign at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Public Relations Excellence Awards.

This was an outstanding initiative, driven by a dedicated and determined team and backed by IOSH members and a wide range of stakeholders from across health and safety, business and science. In 2021, it was still running, campaigning every day to cut the number of people who lose their lives because of exposure to workplace carcinogens.

An inspirational story

Branagh PR has generated positive media coverage for organisations across regional, national, international and industry media.

Because we've worked in journalism before moving into public relations, we have an understanding of what editors and newsdesks are looking for. That said, we take the time to research specific media outlets to understand their news values and the types of content they're producing, whether it's hard news, features or comment.

This feature (pictured right), with safety specialist Scott Mathie, was one of our favourites because it told the story of two safety leaders' journey from the armed forces to 'Civvy Street'. Their answers were heartfelt, candid and generous, and the feedback we received from others following a similar path was wonderful. This feature made a real impact.

‘From the exposure, we have then been asked to feature on podcasts, get connected with industry leaders and had work opportunities that I do not believe would have come about if it wasn't for the work that Tim carried out for us. I would 100% recommend Branagh PR and we will be working with them again going forward’ – Scott Mathie, MD, 1st Choice Safety.
